Philips Guide to Wildflowers

If you are creating or maintaining a wildflower meadow or a wild life
garden then this is the book for you. It’s a handy guide that is easy
to use to identify plants you have never seen before or simply to
confirm a plant’s name and details you might already know.
It’s no easy task writing such a guide as this, by its very nature it
has  to be accurate in respect of  descriptions and botanical
drawing. Just to make the task of writing such a guide even more
difficult plant names and families are changed all the time by the
powers that be and wild flowers themselves grow from seed and
constantly change and evolve to suit their local environment .

The Philips Guide to Wildflowers is a worthy result to all the effort
from its two authors, Bob Gibbons and Peter Brough. As with all good
guides as well as helping you to identify different plants it also
helps educate you as to the plant’s family, growing regions, soil
types  and flowering times and other additional information.

One of the best parts of the book is the key to the different plant
groups near the front of the book that enables you to quickly narrow
down the possible groups to which a plant you are trying to identify
might belong.

At a shade under ten pounds its a worthy and most useful addition to
any gardener’s library particularly if your gardening interest extends to
observing wildflowers in their native positions in hedgerows, woods
and wildflower meadows.
