preperation
The first item on our programme is to get a feel for the existing garden
space after planning on paper we need to consider the final praticalites
of the plan in the space avalable. To do this we normal spend a few
hours pegging out the site in an approximate manor. Then checking the
seating areas intended views and vistas together with looking at the
scale. In this garden the scale will be set by the pond, to large and
it will dominate the garden, too small and the it will be lost in the
planting. If you have the time it is best to stop for a few days and
live in your intended garden ( imaging how it will work, is it going
to be pratical, is the summer house area going to be big enough, will
the kids have enough space. One key point to mention at this stage is
to spend some time looking out of the window in the house at the garden
as this will be were most of your time is spent looking at the feature
and vistas created by the project, at this stage try to remember the
hardest thing to emagine is the planting. To solve this the gardenAdvice
team of designers often us photos of the existing garden and sketch
over the top. The first physical stage in the preparation has been to
cut down the grass followed by the seedling ash and cherry trees that
have grown up over the recent years.
