Cyclamen Care (Indoor).
Question
I have had an indoor cyclamen for some years;I give it a rest in summer, bring it in & repot in autumn and it flowers well. The trouble is, the crown has become huge – about 4″ across and woody looking.I always leave it on top of the soil so that it doesn’t get waterlogged, but it doesn’t look very nice. Is it ok to bury it? If not,is there anything else I can do please? I am frightened I might kill the plant and am quite attached to it as it was a present from my children.
Answer
With regard to your question on cyclamen, you have obviously looked after the plant well in the past. When next you re-pot it I suggest that you simply do exactly as before, but fill around the corm(tuber)with coarse(alpine)grit
leaving only the very top exposed. This will satisfy the problem with its appearance whilst still providing a free draining medium.Cyclamen are almost always raised from seed, and they spread this way in their natural habitat. The corm will not naturally self divide,so that rules out trying to cut it in half for example.Any attempt to do this would result in it rotting off. For More information:
